Highschool exchange Program

High School Exchange

Programme information

The Ama Africa Experiences high school exchange programme runs for either 6 or 11 months, and is open to international high school students between the ages of 15 and 18 years of age ( Grade 10 – Grade 12). The programme affords foreign high school students the opportunity to experience a local South African school, host family and the diverse cultures that South Africa is well known for.  Living with a local host family is a medium for intercultural learning and creating a better understanding between youth of different backgrounds and cultures.  The experience not only gives foreign students insight into the local way of life, but it brings with it a positive life-changing experience, allowing for the opportunity to see the world from the perspective of another culture.

Students will be collected from the airport by their South African host families and after the first few days, Ama Africa Experiences will conduct an orientation (covering all aspects of living and going to school in South Africa). We contribute financially towards transport, school fees, school stationary, accommodation and food. The cost of the flight to and from South Africa, visa, insurance, extramural and optional activities and pocket money are not included in the programme fees.

 Programme placement

Students are placed at local public  or private schools in middle class residential areas in and around Cape Town that offer extramural activities such as sports, dancing and music. All students are placed with inspected, trained and pre- approved host families, ideally situated close to their high school.  All hosts, secured placements and school information will be sent out to participants at least 6 weeks prior to the students arrival.
